Dubai, UAE – The 18th GCC eGovernment and eServices Conference, organized by Datamatix concluded today on its 5th day at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, DIFC in Dubai, UAE highlighting Cloud Computing and e-Service Oriented Architecture, Cyber Threats, E-Government of tomorrow and eGovernment case studies.
The conference session started with the presentation on Cloud Computing and e-Service Oriented Architecture in Government Organizations by Mr. Jorge Sebastiao, Partner, from EU/ME/Africa. He emphasized the importance of e-Service oriented architecture to cloud computing architectures. He discussed how Cloud computing enables load balancing, security and acceleration and focuses on application and business process rather than hardware and technology. H.E. Dr.Abdulkader Al-Fantoukh, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Higher Education – KSA, presented a case study on Saudi Higher Education case study. He discussed about providing efficient services for the students and dealers through the electronic system for the Ministry of higher education. He also spoke about information security policies and the importance of updating systems and auditing. He further added that the human element is the foundation of information security & data governance.
Mr. Krishna Iyer, Vice President at IT Matrix, discussed about Cyber threats and increase in hacktivism. He stressed on GCC perspective and Global perspective on Cyber threats highlighting APT / Hacktivism - and its recent increase, the impact of these threats on e-Govt & financial institutions and strategies to mitigate these cyber threats. Mr. Saud Sulaiman Salem Al Dhawyani, Head of Information Infrastructure section of Dubai Courts presented a presentation on Dubai Courts e-Justice System highlighting the technical development in Dubai court, explained the various automated services, including the electronic case update and the interactive e-Information screens and e-Services, which make Dubai Courts one of the most advanced organizations in the region.
Dr. Abdulhamid Sulaiman, Marketing studies & information center Director, Al-Riyadh newspaper from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia presentation a successful case study of Al-Riyadh Newspaper. He discussed that in 2006, it introduced a digital workflow system, which is reported to have improved editorial efficiency by at least 20%. The system integrates editorial control, layout, production and archiving into one system. He also highlighted that they have also done agreements with educational institutes in KSA to study and do researches. Mr. Iyad Mourtada, CIA, CMA, CFE, CPLP, M.A Vice President-CMA on the Board from the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) showcased a presentation on E-government of tomorrow. He highlighted the Smart learning initiative that aims to create a new learning environment in schools, through introducing "smart classes" in all schools, providing every pupil with a tablet PC and high speed 4G networks. He also discussed about Supply2Dubai the official Procurement Portal of Dubai Government that support Dubai's drive towards modernization of Government services through the best in class technology and quality professional services.
Mr. Hossam Mohamed Helmy Ragheb, Advisor to the Minister of State for Administrative Development and NMI Executive Director of National Management Institute from Egypt discussed about continuous improvement of Egypt local government web portals focused towards enhancing citizen service and participation. He highlighted that these portals how it eliminates the need for voter registration, facilitates multi-channel service delivery, Motivates voters’ participation by explaining the voting process, and makes it easy for Egyptians living abroad to vote. Mr. Jorge Sebastiao, Partner, EU/ME/Africa discussed about the NGN Data Centers and Green Computing, highlighting power usage efficiency trends and stressed on saving power usage using cloud computing. He also spoke about different ways of protecting data centre, waste management, innovation, carbon foot prints.
